I have never touched this space, so I have no ideas of the complexity.
I thought an RSS feed was just a text file.
I don’t understand how you need a separate server. If you use a dynamic cms, then only the cms knows how to retrieve content. If you use a static website then your RSS files are static.

As far as I understand it, this is for aggregating RSS feeds for consumption, not generating them.

Why do you need to "aggregate" anything? You have 10 feeds, you hit refresh, the 10 display new content.

You have 10 feeds. You have 2 devices. You hit refresh on one device. You read some articles. You go to your other device. You hit refresh. You see the same articles you’ve already read marked as unread, because this device doesn’t know what you read elsewhere.

The main reasons I aggregate are 1. Speed: feeds are refreshed on the server, so each client pulls down the aggregated feed instantly. 2. Sync: read/unread items are synchronised between clients/devices. Honestly, that's enough. But there are many other smaller gains, such as being able to filter articles (Mark as Read) based on keywords I'm not interested in.

Aggregation may be useful to keep articles for the amount of time YOU decide. Blogs come and go and with it the articles. Or they move to different URLs and then are lost until you find them again.

Same reason why Dropbox isn't a replacement ftp server.

I use self-hosted Feedbin. Has a nice WebUI and everything. So far the only thing I've found that works properly for me. But the setup is a bit undocumented.

I really like the design of this website; it's very clean.

If you look at the bottom of the page you see that the group is formerly known as Trumpistan? Is this some sort of right wing thing?
trescenzi 4 days ago | root | parent | next |
Interestingly given the date and no other context I read it the other way. I read it as saying “A Canada/USA co-production”. Could go either way though. It is an interesting choice for a footer.

Same, read it like the author was glad a new president was now sitting at the WH.
Well, I guess they can remove the "formerly", now...

"Trumpistan" sounds very dismissive, so I'd bet it was actually written by someone in 2021 who's still salty about the 2016 election results. Anyway, this feels very immature, I'd rather pass on this software altogether.

I currently use FreshRSS which does a heck of a lot. But I'll keep an eye on this.
Edit: this launched 8 years ago! To still be at alpha status after so many years, well, I don't know what to say.
